Le Bateau Lavoir is in the Montmartre neighborhood of Paris. This was the residence and meeting place of Parisian artists and authors as well as art dealers. It is located in the exceptionally lovely Place Èmile Goudeau. Max Jacob, a French poet came up with the name of this place. The name means something like "The Washing boat place ". At the time, the building was so weakly built that it would sway and creak in stormy weather so it seemed like a boat on the Seine River.
